Company Overview
Weighwell partnered with ONCF (Office National des Chemins de Fer), Morocco’s national railway operator, to provide a dedicated weighing solution. This depot is strategically vital to ONCF’s operations, serving as a maintenance depot for the Al Boraq high-speed rail service, Africa’s first and only high-speed rail line.
Launched in 2018, the Al Boraq route connects Tangiers and Casablanca and has dramatically reduced travel times across the region. To ensure ongoing safety and performance, ONCF required a reliable solution to monitor railcar weights.
Rail Vehicles Being Weighed
The depot services Alstom TGV Duplex trains, high-speed double-deck trains originally developed in France. Designed for operation at speeds of up to 320 km/h (199 mph), these trains are built for long-distance, high-capacity service. Understanding the weight distribution is critical, particularly given the aerodynamic demands and high-speed nature of the Al Boraq network.
Our Weighing Solution
To support ONCF’s operations, Weighwell supplied and installed a Static Railcar Weighing System at the Tangiers depot. This system is designed to precisely measure the weight distribution of each railcar, which plays a key role in maintaining the safety and reliability of high-speed trains. By integrating our weighing solution, ONCF can understand the weight distribution of its TGV Duplex fleet.
To support these needs, Weighwell supplied and installed a Static Railcar Weighing System at the Tangiers depot. This system enables ONCF’s engineers to accurately measure individual wheel and axle loads across each train.
With this data, they can:
- Detect load imbalances early.
- Adjust vehicle weights as needed.
- Improve long-term maintenance planning.
By integrating this weighing solution, ONCF gains gains accurate, real-time insight across its high-speed fleet
